« Take those tech things, those objects you are all very familiar with. The screens, the keyboardsw, the smartphones – but also all the things within those things – the codes, the chats, the emails, the files. The stories.

How much of you is in there?

The body of work that Damien Petitot created over the past 20 years explores with impressive consistency a number of media, topics, habits and thoughts that are woven together in a coherent weft that at times lets some threads emerge, at times others, in a seamlessness that simply makes sense. »

Damien Petitot was born in Cambrai, France in 1982, and lives and works in Brussels.

He trained at the ARTS² school in Mons, Belgium, at the IDM© workshop run by Jean-François Octave. Since then, he has been working as a visual artist, focusing his artistic approach on questions relating to screens and their content, in particular by seizing the medium of video and broadcasting or projection equipment.

He likes to hijack and hack technical devices (cameras, smartphones, computers, monitors, etc.) and plays at integrating his own data (email archives, photographs, videos, etc.). In this way he creates installations or videos in which technology recycles the intimate, performances in which error and randomness are seen as generators of fictions and visual experiences.

Alongside this personal approach, he also collaborates with artists such as Claire Williams (Manifestations) , Lucille Calmel (What is this life if, full of care,.html‧mov, Soft Screens Soft Skins Soft) , Gaëtan Rusquet (in Depth, As we were moving ahead…) , Daniel Linehan (Third space) and Stéphane Kozik (Livescape).

He was resident at the Théâtre de L’l from 2014 to 2018 with Mathias Varenne, and since 2022 he is a resident artist at Ateliers Mommen, an artists’ housing estate in Brussels.
